Animal rights

In the modern world, it is no longer necessary to use animals as foods or to use animal products such as medicine or clothings. Do you agree or disagree?

Recently, there have been fierce debates over animal rights and their use to serve humans. In this day and age, the use of animals as sustenance as well as the exploitation of animals as goods, especially in medical and fashion fields, are deemed redundant. From my perspective, the butchery of animals for food is justifiable while it is not the same case for the production of medicine and garments from animals.

To begin with, there are now myriad alternatives to using animals as drugs and fashion items. First of all, it has been scientifically proven that the vast majority of chemical elements in animal-based medicine can now be artificially generated. This, in turn, entails the elimination of needs for killing animals to serve medical purposes. For instance, rhino horns were enumerated in some of the Eastern remedies; however, it has been discovered that substitutes derived from plants can prove much more effective. Moreover, it is ruthless to inflict unbearable suffering on animals to create pieces of clothing whose materials can be plant-based or synthetic. These days, textile industry has generated innumerable ways of manufacturing eye-catching fabrics that are cruelty-free yet still maintain its external appearance. Hence, fashionistas can always turn to these products with guaranteed aesthetic values.

However, the use of animals to retain nutrition in people’s diet is acceptable. As a matter of fact, animal meat is the main source of protein, carbohydrates and fats that human body absorbs and processes for energy. In other words, the deprivation of such a food source can lead to the constant state of fatigue, which can undermine one’s working productivity. Moreover, there is every likelihood of delayed or even stunted growth in children who are not allowed to consume meat in view of their nutritional deficiency. In short, in light of all the essential nutrients contained in animals, there is sufficient justifications to continue using them as sustenance.

In conclusion, although the use of animals products in medicine and fashion is rather gratuitous, it is legitimate to deploy animals for the purpose of humans’ nourishment.
