Living Alone: A Growing Trend

Question: In many countries today, people in cities either live alone or in small family units, rather than in large family groups. Is this a positive or negative trend?

A lot of city dwellers have currently changed their lifestyle from living with many people to being solitary or moderating their interaction with others, which has led to a diminution in family size. I concur that this adjustment in lifestyle is a positive development.

To commence with, living alone can prevent disturbance from others and increase time for oneself. There is a likelihood of co-owning a house with an abrasive person. Therefore, living alone can eliminate every chance of this happening and save time from unnecessary conflicts. As a result, people can devote more time to working at home and boosting their productivity. Moreover, living with fewer people means that there is more time for self-care because one does not have to dedicate himself to taking care of others. In other words, people can freely pursue their interests and bolster their individualism.

It is often argued that living in large family groups can provide more support or prevent one from feeling lonely. However, living alone is better than living perennially with other family members who are toxic. In such a situation, feelings of isolation are likely to be evoked even if people are in a large company. Furthermore, not everyone’s preference is identical; therefore, discord and misunderstanding are oftentimes seen. Living alone, however, spares people such problems.

In conclusion, living alone or in small family units is a positive trend. Leading a seclusive life can give people more time for themselves, which can be viewed as a preferable choice in today’s fast-moving world.
