Sticky rice cake for Tet? We love it!!

Source: Internet

Describe a kind of food people eat on a special occasion.

Vietnamese people always take pride in well-established traditions and customs, especially when it comes to food. So today I would like to talk about one of our signature dishes - sticky rice cake. It is a must-have in the Lunar New Year celebration of Vietnam. Despite being made from simple ingredients, this traditional cake tastes wonderful and holds beautiful cultural meaning as representation of respects for ancestors and Mother Nature. Moreover, since we consume a large amount of proteins and fat throughout the holiday, the cake offers an effective way to regain our appetite. Although many come to acquire a taste for it, few have it daily primarily because the cooking process is by no means as easy as pie. To make one, you’ll need long-grain sticky rice, split mung bean, pork belly and "dong" leaves. After wrapping and assembling the cake, it takes 10 to 12 hours to boil. The cake also needs to be pressed under heavy objects for a few hours to remove excess water. I love to eat chung cakes with some pickled vegetables. Besides, I like making them with my family because we can have some chit-chat together. It's a great bonding experience for all of us.
